Note: These are my “notes” from experience for my own quick reference. However, if my tip helps, a comment would be nice 
How to take better exposures: First take your eyes off the camera! You need to see through your eyes, Judge the darkest and brighest spots in the scene. Switch to spot metering and Manual mode. Meter the darkest spot in the scene that you need to capture (such as greenery in a landscape), Change mode to Manual and choose an aperture. This can be one of the many values depending on the scene: f8-f11 usually ok for normal street scenes, f11-f22 would be nice for landscape. Optionally focus on the hyperfocal distance if you know what that is (more on this in a future tip). if you dont know what that is, just focus on infinity. Change shutter speed until your meter reads correct exposure, then take take 3 pictures. Read more

Here is my first D70S picture….with 50mm f/1.8…Its not great…but, good enough…definately better than G3…Happy with it…
