My 2nd Article

Is here early…I was a little excited and got carried away from a few comments i received about my first one – and decided to write my 2nd article sooner. Go to my articles section and download it. This was meant for printing!

Lightroom vs. Capture One

I admit, i have been using Capture One LE for only one day. This article serves no justice. However, having used Lightroom a bit more and on several hundred pictures, i think i have a fairly good idea on its capabilities.

I recently learned of several free presets being available for Lightroom, which makes great quick improvements and is a huge timesaver. To be able to use these presets, you will need to see a quick tutorial here.

These new tweaks bring the lightroom to almost the power of Apple’s Aperture (i have heard). I no longer use PSE to post-process after RAW conversion.

Since Lightroom looks more and more powerful, i am sure once it ships, it may not be affordable at all – it now looks more like a $199 product. Which is why, i decided to continue to hunt for that  perfect  RAW converter/processing tool. Read more

Purchases!

After my recent photo shoot, and having learned from my mistakes – i am now a proud owner of these things:

  1. A new Markins Q3 ballhead (Thanks to Mike Hagens, i got free shipping as well)
  2. Tripod wraps – having realized that i have two options – to ditch the Alluminium 3001LC in favor of a Carbon Fiber one (better in colder temperatures, besides being a pound lighter) or to buy wraps – i went the cheaper way.
  3. A spare CF Card – i didnt mention this earlier, but i have heard too many stories of their CF card going bonkers. I wouldnt want to go to a photo shoot driving 2 hours before sunlight and not being able to shoot because i didnt have a spare CF card. So, i went ahead and ordered a new Sandisk Ultra III 1GB card – and got myself a free Phase One Capture One software as well.
  4. One other thing i didnt mention earlier is that my ND8 and CPL filters got jammed into each other, since i used both to shoot the waterfall. When i forced them apart, the retainer ring holding the filters (both of them) came out. I have fixed them back myself…however, i am not sure if this will hold in the field. I am considering the Cokin set – cheaper and easier to change in the field.
  5. Finally, i bought a used Novoflex focusing rail. I was hoping i could use this for shooting macros. I havent figured out yet – one of those hasty decisions. I hope i dont regret it.
