I have been busy at home lately – family troubles. That has stopped me from shooting any pictures since the past 2 weeks. This however, hasnt stopped me from reading about it. I have been reading a lot lately – and pretty good books too. If you havent read it yet, go ahead and do yourself a favor – buy the book called “Photography and the Art of seeing, by Freeman Patterson”. You will not regret it. This is one of the few books that has the capability to take you to the next level.
Ofcourse, it is the season to buy and splurge – so i have a few new purchases as well – my new 35mm f2.0 is incredible and stays on the camera a whole lot these days. I hope to have lots of fun with this.
If you have been using the strap that comes with your camera, here is my 2 cents of advice – “ditch it” . You have no idea how bad it is – both for your own health’s sake (neck pain etc) as well as comfort wise. Do yourself a favor and buy an Op/TECH strap (The company is not endorsing me to say this…). This *IS* the best strap out there…and makes your camera feel as light as a point & shoot…with a big lens! this is an incredible piece of thing ever…just trust me on this.
Finally, the last big purchase i did – i have been waiting for this for about 2 months since i pre-ordered it. It is the new AFS VR 70-300 f4.5-5.6 IF ED lens. While the nomenclature is pretty long, i have heard very good reviews already, and from my own experience – rocks!
That said, it would only be fitting to mention all the software i recently purchased as well – Noise Ninja - just buy it, its worth every penny you pay for this, and Photomatix for HDR.
I havent used Photomatix much, but intend to use it for my new interest in B&W Photography, after reading a few issues of Lenswork. If you havent read this magazine, they are running a holiday special, and its a steal. Just go down to a local bookstore and see the latest magazine…I promise that you will be blown away.
Note: These were purchased over several months; not all of them this month!
