Obsession with lens ranges…

With the announcement of 2 new zooms – it is now a reality to have a lens that covers every single millimeter in the range of 14 through 400 mm with no overlaps (14-24, 24-70, 70-200, 200-400)  all at f2.8 (or f4 for 200-400)!

However, my question really is – is it really that required? I have always thought 3 primes was all that was required to cover any kind of situation (one for wide, normal and one for tele).

Thanks to the manufacturers – we will soon have to worry about “fat and lazy” photographers – who tend to take all pictures from one point!

New (& revised) thoughts for the week!

I am not sure if this is just plain old marketing at work, or the news is really is this exciting. I feel like a small kid getting excited about a new toy – the announcement of the new D300 (and D3 as well – but its far beyond my reach) is far reaching and possibly compares very favorably against its Canon counterparts.

Just this past week, i had written about how envious i was with Canon’s offerings and why i was having 2nd thoughts about my decision with Nikon (Although, I must admit that Nikon wins hands-down when it comes to ergonomics – yes, even the professional models from Canon suck in this aspect!) – and this is very very important to me.

The lens department is still lacking though.

Thoughts for the week…

  • While being a happy and satisfied Nikon user, i occasionally look at the Canon offerings and twitch. Canon has a much better lens lineup as compared to Nikon – They have zooms, primes and tele ranges that satisfy every requirement. Oh well, the grass is always greener on the other side.
  • “Art” is a solitary activity – Most popular artists have worked alone.
  • The most popular works of many an artists were evolved from several attempts. Monet painted several hundred water lily paintings, Van Gogh painted several variations of the Sunflowers and Edward Weston even numbered his takes (Pepper #30).
  • About 50% of the workshops i have attended are useless (from the creative perspective) -One generally learns on how to create an image that made the teacher famous. At the end of the workshop, the group typically produces several images that look just like the “teacher’s album”.
  • “Gallery HD” is the best TV channel to come after Discovery and History channel!
