Retiring this blog!

Google has retired its very popular reader despite public cry. Of course, a whole lot of 3rd party software developers have stepped up to fill in their shoes… Thats is not the question though. I think Google is sending a message that blogs as a means of information creation & consumption is no longer acceptable to

2011: Lessons from 2010

Based on my personal experiences, here is a list of things I recommend to you as a Photographer. Think seriously about these in 2011 if you still haven’t already done it… So, here goes: Backup: Excuse my language but S**T happens. When it does happens, all hell breaks loose. It is always better to be equipped

Travel notes…

When people turn to photography, there is that ever slight change in their behavior that I noticed.…These may or may not be typical of everyone, but just based on my observations from my most recent trip… I have noticed that Japanese photographers crouch (bend both their legs making their stature shorter) when taking photographers — despite them

Backing up…

Every other type of backup probably works well, and there is no “right” way. It is important however to ensure that you are backing up your work and that it is a painless

Limited edition prints..

In my opinion, there is no such thing. It is bogus and just snake oil. Back in the days, printing was technically challenging, labor intensive and reproducibility was difficult. Master printers made extensive notes on their test prints, trained a select few on how to read these notes and make prints. In most cases, these master

Photographer or artist?

Well, I have often felt that there is a stigma associated with the term “Photographer” in some social circles. The term “Photographer” means different things to people based on preset notions and social situation. Simply said, A photographer is someone/anyone who uses a camera to capture pictures. However, thats not the end of the story…

Understanding Art

My recent trip to Philadelphia Museum of Art to see the works of Picasso and his contemporaries has been an epiphany  in some ways. The exhibit I am of course referring to is the Picasso exhibit.  As a photographer — I find these exhibits very enlightening.  If you are an aspiring fine-art photographer, I would suggest
